Residents Coaching Service

What is Coaching?

If you have participated in a sport, you and/or your team would have had a coach whose function it was to hold a vision for the team, set goals, formulate a plan, encourage players to do their best, celebrate successes and take you beyond your expectations.

During the last decades, coaching has stepped out of this arena and has entered the boardroom, the executive suite, the creative domain of entrepreneurs and cutting edge innovators in every field including medicine.

Successful people recognize the value of coaching !

Coaches are allies who support you by bringing you back to your vision, to what is central and important to YOU and by holding you committed to achieving the goals you set for yourself. They help you manifest your best and manage your time and energy in a grounded, creative and efficient way.

Coaching is different from counseling and mentoring. Counseling tends to focus on the past, on emotional difficulties or relationship issues. Mentors tend to offer advice and encouragement. Both counseling and mentoring are important and useful and are available to residents through UBC and PAR-BC.

Benefits

In the fast pace modern world we live in, information is available beyond our capacity to absorb it and technology is constantly developing requiring new skills and quick adaptation. This typifies the world of medicine. Residents arrive in this pressure cooker atmosphere and are required to fit in and deal with a great deal of stress very quickly and often invisibly.
